An experimental demo website by a Croatian designer could solve the problem of microscopic font. Marko Dugonjić's page allows users to read text from distance without having to revert to screwing up their eyes to do so -- by adjusting the size of their screen depending on where they are located.
After permitting the site to link up to your webcam, it will keep a record of your movements, constantly rejigging the dimension of your on-screen content to make sure that it remains readable based on where you are sitting or standing in the vicintity.
The site is still in beta, so there are a few significant glitches. Words can shift around, producing a slightly dizzying effect, but it's worth keeping tabs on this site as the creator irons out the kinks. It could potentially be applied to screens larger than laptops, such as TVs, so that viewers catch their favorite TV shows even as they dart around the room or get in some much needed activity.
Barring the potentially unnerving surveillance à la 1984, it may be a very useful site indeed.
