Uber is dabbling with ecommerce with a test offering called Corner Store in Washington, D.C., that lets you order diapers, toothpaste allergy medicine and more than 100 other items via its app -- then get them delivered by Uber drivers.

The experiment, starting Tuesday, is slated to last a few weeks, but "the more you love it, the more likely it will last," according to a company blog post. At the moment, the program is only available in the Washington, D.C. area.

To order, toggle to the Corner Store option on Uber's app. If a driver is available, you'll receive a text message with a link to the items available for purchase. There will be no delivery fee.

The introduction comes after Uber launched Uber Rush, a bicycle- and pedestrian-based courier service in New York in April.

Google has also recently expanded its Google Shopping Express same-day delivery in New York and Los Angeles in May. The service had previously only been available in San Francisco. Amazon has also been expanding its same-day delivery this year.
