The six victims of Friday's mass murder in Isla Vista, a community near the University of California, Santa Barbara, were remembered by the university in a day of mourning Tuesday.
Classes were cancelled on Tuesday, and in a letter to the community, UCSB chancellor Henry Yang and interim executive vice chancellor Joel Michaelsen wrote that a memorial service would be held at 4 p.m. PT. Classes will resume on Wednesday.
A man killed six people and injured 13 others during Friday night's deadly rampage. The suspect, identified by police as 22-year-old Elliot Rodger, was found dead of a gunshot wound to his head in his BMW.
As evidenced by his 137-page manifesto, Rodger had meticulously planned a "Day of Retribution" as far back as 2011, when he moved to Isla Vista to go to Santa Barbara City College.
Students and members of the community held a candlelight vigil on Saturday night to remember the victims.
The USCB murders and Rodger's manifesto spurred a Twitter campaign called #YesAllWomen, with many people voicing their outrage and concern over Rodger's male sexual entitlement. In a YouTube video titled "Elliot Rodger's Retribution," which was later taken down, he called the lack of female interest in him "an injustice."
