UK Copyright Law To Become A Bit Less Ridiculous

[img src="" caption="" credit="" alt=""]The UK lawmakers are finally considering changing their copyright law so that CD ripping is no longer illegal. Yes, in case you didn't know, all that debate on the legality of merely copying tracks from a CD to your hard drive is happening on US soil. In the UK, this practice is illegal, which means that you can buy a CD in a shop but are not allowed to transfer the songs to your MP3 player. Which in practice means that most people will disregard the copyright altogether and simply do as they please, and even the recording industry is aware of that.

The proposal of Lord Triesman, Minister for Intellectual Property, includes two important changes to copyright law: if it should pass, it would be legal to parody existing work, as well as create CD/DVD copies for personal or private use - whatever that means. For example, if you have more than one MP3 player, and more than one computer, can you transfer the files to all of them?
