It was the British TV hit that Americans weren't allowed to watch -- until Wednesday.

UK crime drama Happy Valley is now on Netflix, and at only six episodes, it's beginning to look like Thursday morning will be a little ... rough.

The kidnap thriller's finale first aired overseas in early June, and through its run attracted more than 6 million weekly viewers. That's just a little bit shy of the weekly viewership that Game of Thrones enjoys in the United States, which is five times bigger than Great Britain.

On the night of the finale on June 3, the hashtag #HappyValley was the No. 1 global trending topic on Twitter. Suffice to say a second season is planned for next year.

Stateside reviews have been strong: Variety's Brian Lowry says writer Sally Wainwright's characters are "so sharply drawn and the situation so suspenseful that Netflix’s famous binge function will likely be put to good use here."
