Thousands of police officers deployed across the streets of London didn't put off the huge crowds that gathered to watch the city's spectacular fireworks display on New Year's Eve.
All available staff, including hundreds of specially trained firearms officers, were drafted in by Scotland Yard for the ticketed event, which the London Eye was the focus of.
Elsewhere in Scotland, thousands gathered for the annual Hogmanay street party spectacular in Edinburgh where the focus of attention was on Princes Street with bands playing on a number of stages and a massive fireworks display attracting people from around the world.
