Screen Digest has conducted a survey that indicates the UK market of online TV will grow considerably in the coming years, reaching $362 million by 2011. This is an important consideration, because online TV in the UK is still relatively new, but the forecast for the growth of this sector means a lot for Internet TV companies, studios, and marketers.

What the results of the survey really do is emphasize the shift in the consumer market for people that want more on-demand solutions. There's already been a large number of Internet TV companies tat have gained steam in the past year, and this trend will only continue to grow. We're reminded of this trend by Echo's acquisition yesterday of Sling Media, which offers a device and network options for on-demand television content.

Nevertheless, the UK seems to be facing a bit of hesitancy in regards on online TV, as the launching of the BBC's iPlayer failed to meet expectations for consumers, in addition to the tension that's occurred between network providers and Internet TV services. Microsoft is one company that's looking to benefit from the growing trends in the UK, as it's hoping to partner with the BBC for distribution of TV content through the Xbox.
