Union Square Ventures Sues Union Square Partners for Trademark Infringement

Union Square Ventures, the venture capital firm that backed del.icio.us, Feedburner, Tacoda, Twitter and others, is suing Union Square Partners, a buyout firm, for trademark infringement.

Confused and tongue-tied yet? Union Square Partners used to be called Capital Z Financial Services. If that's not enough, the offices are less than three blocks away from each other in New York. Union Square Ventures is pretty darned upset with USP, given the continued mixups that take place on a regular basis.

One must ask, though, why USP took on the name in the first place? Is this a bad form of flattery, or an homage to a well-known landmark? So now we're just left wondering: does this case have any legs? Or does this seem too oddly familiar to a certain utube lawsuit?
