Is a tennis match worth watching if Serena Williams isn't playing?

The answer it seems, is no. Since Williams' surprise loss Friday, ticket prices for the U.S. Open Women's Finals match have been in a free fall.

Ticket prices for the upper tiers of seating, that is, cheaper tickets, were down by about 70% as of Saturday morning with the base price coming in at less than $80, according to TiqIQ. Before Friday's match between Williams and Roberta Vinci, the average price for tickets to the final match was $1,142, CNBC reported.

Others saw ticket prices as low as $50 on Stubhub.

Wow. US Open Women's Final tickets were at $250+ this morning. Now below $50. It's like Lehman just failed http://t.co/joS53gAi5q— Joe Light (@joelight) September 11, 2015

If anything, this might just be a measure of how wide Williams' appeal was, as one Twitter user posted Friday afternoon.

It's official!l I just put my US Open Finals tickets to resell on Ticketmaster! #WipingTears #FB— xoxo, Saneeta Renee (@ChicInspector) September 12, 2015

Some were feeling relieved they hadn't made the purchase.

They selling US Open tickets for $40, I almost paid 300 last week smh— Rik (@Rik_FIair) September 11, 2015

Others just felt bad for those who paid hundreds of dollars just a short time before.

Hint to people trying to re-sell US Open women's final tickets... If you don't want them, nobody else does either.— Nate (@CPVDAR23) September 11, 2015
