Close your eyes and travel back with us: The year is 2014. It's the World Cup.

The U.S. Men's National Team pairs up against Germany. We lose. Remember the pain? Remember the defeat? The completely expected disappointment?

Now, it's 2015. It's a friendly match between USMNT and Germany. The game basically means nothing in the grand scheme. The U.S. wins. We immediately declare world soccer domination.

Wednesday's victorious match saw Twitter abuzz for beating the world's top-ranked soccer team. Earlier in the week, the USMNT also beat the Netherlands (the #5 team), leaving Americans feeling a sense of patriotism only sports can evoke.

We immediately raised our flags, tweeted our congrats, declared Bobby Wood a national hero and prepared ourselves for the next World Cup.

I believe. And so does this cat. #USMNT pic.twitter.com/ofLwlgw553— Katherine Lutes (@Katherine_Lutes) June 10, 2015
