uTIPu Makes Video Demos on the Fly

uTIPu (pronounced you-tip-you) is a way of sharing information. It's specific to sharing information about your computer. Think of it as a slide show creation tool for the sole purpose of showing someone exactly what you're talking about on a computer screen.

We've all been there. You're on the phone with your girlfriend and you want to show her a pair of sunglasses you found online. Your end of the conversation goes like this: "Well, go to bluefly.com and click on the "accessories" link. See it? It's a little further down the page. On the left. Got it? OK. Then click on Calvin Klein. Yeah. It's the third pair to the right, second row from the bottom. No, to the right. Count it. Right next to the brown pair. No, it's to the left of the brown pair, but it's on the right side of the screen."

So uTIPu proposes that you just record your actual computer screen and share the video with your friend. uTIPu's service comes by way of a software download that enables you to record directly from your computer screen. Use your webcam too if you'd like. That way you can show yourself talking along with the video. Otherwise you can add audio narration (you don't have to) and then your clip can be shared privately or publicly. The limit for videos is 5 minutes long, so don't get too long-winded. It's just a pair of sunglasses.

Now in reality this is helpful to a certain extent to just about any computer user that has friends in the real or virtual world, but I honestly see this tool as being most useful for the plethora of startups that may want an easy option for creating a video demo to play on their site. But I don't think it will be replacing web conferences any time soon, and I don't see it as having too much mainstream appeal, for the simple fact that several video messaging tools and integrated applications are quickly being incorporated into social networking and instant messenger clients, such as Meebo.
