When Utube - Universal Tube & Rollform Equipment - found its Utube.com site bombarded by users looking for the video sharing service of the same name, the company decided to sue for lost business. But as Mashable commenters pointed out, the 2 million+ unique visitors per month (likely to be many times that number by now) hitting Utube should be taken as a gift and monetized with ads or downloads. We also reported in December 2006 that UTube had decided to cash in, putting a ringtone search engine on the site.
Today Red Herring quotes ComVentures partner Baris Karadogan, saying that uTube.com is pulling in as much as $1,000/day. But it looks like a substantial portion of that will go to the lawyers: uTube is continuing to pursue the case against YouTube.
