Vending Machines Could Soon Come to a Taxi Near You

Vending machines could soon come to a Taxi near you -- at least to a New York City cab near you -- allowing you to buy gum, mouthwash, Old spice cologne and, maybe one day, even condoms.

The machine, called Vengo, was designed by Brian Shimmerlik, a New York University MBA candidate and was installed for the first time this week in a local New York bar. Shimmerlik's initial idea, though, is to have them inside cabs. In 2012, the New York City Economic Development Council awarded him with a $17,500 grant to develop his idea and he has since raised $1 million in private funding.

Vengo vending machines are touchscreen and credit card only, and they can potentially be installed at office buildings, bars, doctor's offices, and taxi cabs. Shimmerlik is already considering 10,000 locations throughout the city.

"The purpose is to update the vending machine of the ’80s," Shimmerlik told the New York Post. "They’ve become extinct."
