Congrats, Internet. The day has finally come to use all those AOL dial-up jokes you've had on reserve since 2001.

Verizon announced on Tuesday that it would purchase (former) Internet giant AOL to the tune of $4.4 billion. No, you didn't read that wrong.

Reps from Verizon/AOL have confirmed the deal was made via Instant Messenger and the details were saved to a floppy disk.

While business reporters and analysts alike wondered what this would mean for the industry, the rest of the world quickly jumped at the chance to make priceless "you've got merger" jabs. Big day for us all.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump is not happy. Carry on.

What a STUPID deal for Verizon to buy AOL for $4.4 billion. AOL has been bad luck for everyone who touched it. Worth less than $1 billion!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 12, 2015
