"I thought many times the 'D' in D-Day meant death day," said World War II veteran Arnold Lambert.

Lambert was among the 160,000 Allied troops that stormed the heavily German-fortified French coastline in Normandy on June 6, 1944. Friday marks the 70th anniversary of the largest seaborne invasion in history — in which more than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft were sent to infiltrate occupied France.
