Starting today, fans that follow VH1 on Foursquare can earn a special limited edition VH1 Save The Music badge. All fans have to do is check into any music venue across the country.

To entice fans to check in and earn the badge, VH1 is doing something special. For the first 35,000 users that unlock the badge, VH1 will donate $1 per badge to the VH1 Save The Music Foundation.

The VH1 Save The Music Foundation is a non-profit dedicated to restoring instrument music education in American public schools. The organization also works to raise awareness about the importance of music education.

Paul Cothran, vice president and executive director of the VH1 Save The Music Foundation told us that on average, the organization donates $37,000 per school. That means that this Foursquare promotion will essentially provide one school with a full slate of instruments for its students.

Although fans can earn the badge by checking into any music venue across the country, VH1 and Foursquare expect to see huge traction around SXSW. Checking into any of the special music venues across the U.S. will unlock the badge and throw a $1 in the VH1 Save The Music Foundations coffers.

Foursquare and VH1 have a longstanding relationship. VH1 was one of the first brands to align with the service and it remains one of the most followed brands on Foursquare.

VH1 and Foursquare see an alignment in their audiences, both in terms of age range and willingness to embrace social good. Jonathan Crowley, Foursquare's director of media partnerships, emphasized the importance that social good holds to Foursquare as a company as well as its audience.
