Video game sequels are basically ubiquitous. If a game garners any popularity and sells a respectable number of copies, it's pretty much guaranteed another go 'round (or three).

This isn't a bad thing, because unlike films, video game sequels are frequently the equal of -- and often the better than -- their predecessors. Thanks to more powerful technology and increasingly skillful storytelling, dipping back into the well rarely offers diminishing returns. And yet every so often, a game that people love doesn't get the follow-up treatment.

Just because the powers that be didn't see franchise potential doesn't stop us from yearning to revisit the characters and worlds these unappreciated gems introduced us to. Here are 10 games that we wish had become franchises.
