Stanley Kubrick Movie Montage Showcases Symmetry in Stunning Video

Story Updated 8/31/12 11:35AM

Feast your eyes on this piece of symmetry in motion. It's a video montage of scenes from Stanley Kubrick's movies that highlights the legendary filmmaker's penchant for the one-point perspective shot.

This perspective focuses on a single vanishing point directly opposite the viewer's eye. Kubrick used the technique in his films, including 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shining, A Clockwork Orange and Full Metal Jacket. All of these classics are featured in the video, which was uploaded Wednesday by Vimeo user kogonada.

Scored to Clint Mansell's epic "Lux Aeterna," it begins with a shot from Space Odyssey of a moving tunnel of colored light. Then, the video shows a rapid succession of scenes from Kubrick's movies with a grid on top, highlighting the one-point perspective, before launching into longer shots from each film.

Creator kogonada has previously edited videos that celebrate techniques by other iconic filmmakers, including Darren Aronofsky, Quentin Tarantino and Wes Anderson.
