If you have any credits left with Virgin Digital's online music store, you best get to using them as it is going away October 19th.

As of last Friday, the UK branch stopped accepting new customers, and also stopped selling any more songs. Users who were on the subscription plan and have more than a month of membership left will receive refunds. However, no refunds will be offered for song payments. Users in the US will also have the option of moving their credits over to Napster.

With the news that Sony is also closing down their service, the online digital music marketplace keeps shrinking, and one has to wonder when it will just be iTunes and subscription services left to duke it out. Virgin did seem to make one misstep in that they went with Microsoft's DRM format, effectively cutting themselves off from the iPod market.
