Vivian Schiller announced Wednesday she was "stepping aside" from her role as Twitter's head of news.

Her resignation is the latest in a series of high-level departures at the company since it went public last year.

Schiller announced her resignation on Twitter, saying she was stepping aside so the company's new global head of media, Katie Stanton, could "reorganize as she sees fit." Stanton was promoted to her current role at Twitter in July after overseeing the company's international expansion efforts from Paris.

Schiller thanked both Stanton's predecessor, Chloe Sladden, and former Chief Financial Officer Ali Rowghani-- both of whom also left the company within the last several months.

2/3 Many thanks to @chloes and @rowghani for convincing me to come work at Twitter. It was a fascinating experience.— Vivian Schiller (@vivian) October 8, 2014

3/3 And mostly, thanks to all the great journalists and newsrooms I collaborated with. Your innovation & creativity is an inspiration.— Vivian Schiller (@vivian) October 8, 2014

Schiller joined Twitter in October 2013, prior to the company's IPO. She came to Twitter from NBC News, where she served as chief digital officer. Previously, she also held senior positions at NPR and the New York Times.

It's not clear who the company will choose to replace Schiller, who held the position for just under a year.
