The judo-fighting, rifle-shooting, shirtless bachelor also known as President Vladimir Putin has been shunned -- after a fashion -- by the First Lady of China.

62-year-old Putin made a chivalrous move during meal time at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Beijing on Monday. The recently-divorced president offered Peng Liyuan, the wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, his blanket. Smooth.

Jinping was distracted at the beautiful moment, chatting with U.S. President Barack Obama, but his wife realised it wasn't a good look (perhaps because the brown clashed with her blue) and removed the blanket after a brief diplomatic interval, sending it off with a minder.

It seems Putin's charms can't win them all.

Chinese broadcaster CCTV picked up on Putin's move and posted the video online (watch below at 0:35).

Foreign Policy reported the "coatgate" incident spread rapidly through Chinese social media but was shut down by censors as quickly as it had emerged. Censorship of the media in China, especially in regards to politicians, is rigorously maintained.
