DirecTV and VMIX, an interactive social networking company for video content, introduce today a new dedicated online channel for DireTV's show "The Fizz" to be available online here.

The channel on VMIX will showcase "The Fizz" which is a pop culture mashup of the best user-generated content. To promote this, VMIX fans can submit their own video content to be considered for upcoming episodes, granting an opportunity for users to be on a nationally broadcast television program. Video bloggers, amateur animation clips and indie music are all promoted on "The Fizz" where more than 16 million households can watch the show through DirecTV.

This partnership allows DirecTV to have access to VMIX's user base to find new content, as well as extending their reach through an online channel. This is part of their overall strategy for expansion. The same rings true for VMIX, as they'll be able to offer more value to their users by offering them a chance to be on television. Tapping into the viral video market in this way has proven tricky in the past year, but it's not impossible. VH1 has taken another shot at it, and the entertainment industry overall is finding better ways to integrate traditional and new media outlets (i.e. Joost and Prom Queen).
