Good news, Volkswagen Microbus fans: There might be a new one coming very soon ... with an electric motor driving the wheels.

When, in the wake of dieselgate, Volkswagen said it'd refocus its energy on electric vehicles, we thought that meant it would have a few new, eco-friendly EVs in a few years time. Seems, though, that the embattled German automaker has been hard at work and has already prepared a new electron-driving car.

We say that because Friday it released a teaser image of the concept vehicle it will debut at 2016 CES, saying, "the world premiere marks the beginning of a new era of affordable long-distance electromobility."

Though shown in concept form, the Microbus is reported to be on track for a 2017 production run, according to Autocar. When it goes on sale, it will boast a 250 to 310-mile range, making it a true competitor for the Chevrolet Bolt and the Tesla Model 3.

In addition to the Microbus EV, Volkswagen will show a "new display" and other "operating concepts." VW hints that the innovations shown in last year's Golf R Touch concept car will find their way to the brand's "broad product portfolio."

Lastly, according to a leaked video from The Truth About Cars VW will also show a new TFT instrument cluster. Though not too exciting, it shows the brand's determination to keep its head down, fight through dieselgate and come out the other side more eco-friendly and tech-savvy.
