Taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Cooking a meal instead of eating out. There are simple tweaks you can make to your lifestyle to jumpstart your health -- but they don't end with activity and consumption. Another way to improve your health is volunteering.

A study by UnitedHealth Group and the Optum Institute finds that volunteering is linked to better physical, mental and emotional health.
