The car, which is slated to hit the market in 2012, will let you choose between three drive modes. Under the "Pure" regimen, the car runs entirely on electricity with a 50 km mileage; if you switch to "Hybrid," you'll get a hybrid drive with average carbon dioxide emissions of just 49 g/km. Finally, when you need to step on the gas pedal, you can switch to "Power" mode, which will give you a total of 215 + 70 horsepower, making the V60 speed from 0-100 km/h in a respectable 6.9 seconds.

Now for the bit that makes potential electric car customers cringe: The car takes between 3 and 7.5 hours to charge depending on the outlet -- not too shabby compared to, for example, Chevy Volt, which is supposed to take four hours to charge on a dedicated 240-volt line.

Volvo understands how painful waiting can be, so to make those long hours pass faster, the company made an iPhone app that lets you monitor the charging status. Check out the video demonstration of the car's most important features (the iPhone bit is at 2:37) below.
