Vostu is Facebook, Spanish Edition

Vostu is a social network for Spanish speakers to have a global, online environment in which they feel comfortable.

Striving for what's become the standard of creating a social network geared towards college students, Josh Kushner, Dan Kafie and Mario Schlosser began Vostu at Harvard, designing a site for Latin surfers that are already part of the MySpace and Facebook crowds, but would prefer to socialize in their own language. A rival, perhaps, to Hispanito and Elhood.

In an effort to keep spammers out, new Vostu members require an approved status from the site, much like Asoboo. This could be a hindrance for those hoping to find the same free-for-all that MySpace has, but does elude to the initial eliteness of Facebook. As many social networks that start off in the U.S. have a slow progression to accommodating other languages (think MySpace Mexico), it's no surprise that Vostu has come about from within American culture.
