It isn't often that one can say that a site whose name comes from a quote by Al Capone is a solid effort that accomplishes the goals it sets out to achieve. In this case, VoteOften.us takes the Digg concept, applies it to the niche of politics, and makes a few improvements upon the concept in the process.

As you can see, the controls are a bit standard - with the tags, short description, title and description. The little blue to red slider bar rather puzzled me to start with, and it wasn't clearly explained in any obvious spots on the site. After perusing the site for a bit, looking over the different articles and where the slider was on each one, figured that it was the 'bias meter,' a neat alternative to the bury option. One of the big problems with the system of Digg is the issue of things getting buried because of the fabled 'bury brigade' and the even more mythical "autobury" function of the site.

As the legend goes, stories disappear from the upcoming queue of the Digg site mysteriously from the autobury function. The bury brigade is supposedly a roving band of Diggers, though, that traverse the site for news items that they find politically and morally objectionable and select the 'bury' function on the site to kill them.

It is one of the factors that makes the political democratic story editorializing one of the more difficult tasks to accomplish. The bias meter is a nice solution to this problem, which allows visitors to the site to let their feelings and opinions known on the quality and bias of the story known without completely making the story disappear.

Especially in what looks to be a particularly hot political season coming up, this site has a very good future ahead of it, in my estimation. The site is still in private testing, but you can sign up to be amongst the testers, or be alerted when the site reaches public status.
