The long-anticipated opening of the world's tallest water slide is now set for Thursday.

After three delays, Schlitterbahn water park officials announced the Kansas City, Kansas, attraction would be open to the public this week.

The ride was originally scheduled to open on May 23, when the water park opened for the season. Then it was delayed to June 5, then delayed again to June 29 after the park officials canceled a media preview of the slide, saying the conveyor system for the rafts had a glitch.

Park officials have repeatedly said the delays were needed to allow for more testing.

In April, Guinness World Records certified the 17-story, 168-foot-tall attraction as the tallest water slide in the world. Riders on the Verrückt, which means "insane" in German, plummet at 60 miles per hour to 70 miles per hour on four-person rafts.

The park's designer and the slide's engineer tried it out last week. This video is the first to show humans riding the slide (spoiler: they survive).
