Waxxi, which launched earlier this month, just uploaded the recording of their very first podcast - an audience with Robert Scoble and Shel Israel about Naked Conversations. Waxxi is an attempt to provide podcasts for huge numbers of people - it may be able to support over 5,000 users. Thankfully, the conversation is moderated to prevent "podcast chaos". From the site:

Waxxi is a presenter and producer of live and archived interactive podcasts. We saw a need in the read/write/web environment, in podcasts, which are linear in nature. Typically, there are one or a few people interviewing one or a few, and us listening. We thought, why not invite people from across the globe to participate in the podcast, to ask the questions and interact with the guests…and each other?

Waxxi is going up against Skypecasts, Skype's new conferencing service that supports up to 100 participants. However, I don't see a huge demand for either service right now (early days, perhaps). The real selling point is the ability to hold a worldwide conference, so perhaps using Waxxi or Skypecasts within the context of Second Life might make sense - combining both elements would make for an extremely realistic conference experience.
