Watch the Weather Channel Live on YouTube

The Weather Channel is currently hosting its live cable coverage of Hurricane Sandy on its YouTube channel.

So whether you're prepping for the storm on the East Coast, or trying to access information from elsewhere in the world, the live video is available without a cable subscription.

According to Weather Channel spokesperson Jazmine Maddox, this is the first time the network has streamed its cable broadcast live on YouTube.

The stream began Sunday evening, and it is a homepage spotlight on YouTube in the U.S. As of this morning, there had been 1,000,000 playback starts, 20,000 peak concurrent users, more than 141,000 hours streamed with an average view time of 8.5 minutes, according to Maddox.

As of this writing, the YouTube channel has almost 7 million video views, and more than 76,000 people are currently watching as Sandy barrels up the East Coast.
