Weblog Launches Version 2.0 of Basic Blogging Service

Weblog (not to be confused with Weblogs or any other variation of the term) is the flagship product of BPHG Media. It's a blogging network, enabling you to create and publish your own blog journal, and its version 2.0 is now live.

The overall setup is pretty basic and very easy to use. Choose a blog name and a template design, and start writing. You do have the option of creating more than one blog. There are about a dozen or so template designs to choose from, though I don't see a way to incorporate your own CSS design if you'd like to veer from the pre-selected options offered by Weblog. The WYSIWYG editor is pretty inclusive, and you can toggle between your regular, HTML and Preview views by clicking on tabs directly in the editor screen, similar to TypePad. You can also access and manage comments left for your blog posts.

While the homepage displays categories and recent blog postings from other members of Weblog, there is no actual community tied in with the service. You can search the entire Weblog database for entries on a particular keyword as well. There are a few options included with the Weblog offering, such as a "Digg This" link that you can add as an option for your readers. The commenting system is pretty basic and works similar to Blogger. Only Weblog members can leave comments, and there's no ability to reply to another user's comment.

In other blog network news, Six Apart is losing Brad Fitzpatrick, founder of LiveJournal.
