More news from WeeWorld. A few weeks back, the creators of the WeeMee avatars partnered with AIM to provide characters for the popular IM client. Today they're announcing a partnership with Microsoft to provide a similar service: animated characters for Windows Live Messenger. WeeMees were already available to Messenger users in the United Kingdom, Spain, Belgium, Holland, France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Australia and Canada, but the new deal brings the characters to the US market. This gives WeeMee massive reach: with more than 240 million active accounts, Live Messenger is the world's most popular IM client.

WeeMees, you'll remember, are customizable characters built using a neat little design tool. When integrated with Windows Live Messenger, the avatars respond to emoticons posted in the chat window. You can also send "winks" to people in your buddy list - custom animations that take up the whole Messenger window.
