Can you hear the sleigh bells?

That's right, it isn't even the end of August and I'm telling you to buy your plane tickets for Christmas. Or at the very least, start thinking about your winter holiday travel plans. I'm sorry, but also: You're welcome.

The good news, if imagining snow and ice right now is too much, is that you've still got some time if your holiday plans are in the air.

For winter holiday travel, whether that's Chrismas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or none of the above, prices start to go up about two months beforehand in October, according to airfare analysis site Hopper.

"You want to be booking before the end of October for your holiday," Hopper CEO and co-founder Frederic Lalonde told Mashable. "Sixty percent of people wait until a month before the Christmas holiday before booking, so if you book in October you'll be ahead."

Labor Day is often touted as the deadline for when holiday airfares begin to rise, but you'll still have a month or so after that. What you definitely do not want to do is wait until three weeks before Christmas, when fares start to increase more rapidly.

Christmas is on Friday this year, and flights are likely to be expensive both for the weekend before (Dec. 19-20) and weekend after (Dec. 26-27).

Priceline suggests departing on Dec. 21, 22 or 24, and returning between Dec. 28-31.

Airfares for Thanksgiving offer less incentive to plan early. Prices remain steady -- and relatively high, due to most people having rigid travel schedules for Thanksgiving -- until about 10 days before the holiday, according to Hopper.

So if you are traveling for Thanksgiving, you can wait if you want to, even though waiting won't save you any money either. Saving on Thanksgiving travel has more to do with the days you travel than how early you book.

"Travelers booking now for Thanksgiving will find the best fares if they depart on Nov. 19, 20, 23, 24 and 26; and return home on Nov. 26 or 27, or wait until Dec. 1," according to Priceline.

Although "ASAP" is going to be the right answer to "When should I buy my holiday flights for 2015?" from now on, there are still a few tricks to getting the best fare.

Use Google Flights to see a calendar with lowest available fares, check out this Fly or Drive calculator to compare costs if your destination is within a day's road trip, and sign up for newsletters from carriers that service your route.
