UPDATE, May 1, 4:17 p.m. ET -- The Snapchat update is now available in the App Store and the Google Play store.
Snapchat announced its biggest update yet Thursday. The company revealed it was adding text messaging, video chat and other new features that promise to take the app's photo and video sharing to the next level.
But it appears that the update, which was announced on the company's blog and in a message to users from the Team Snapchat account, has yet to make it to the iPhone App Store.

The message sent by the Team Snapchat account instructs users to "double tap to upgrade." Double tapping redirects users to the Snapchat app in the App Store, but for many people the update has yet to appear, prompting some to express their impatience over Twitter:

It's not unheard of for new releases and App Store updates to take some time to roll out to all users as updates get pushed through the system. It appears this case is no different. Snapchat may have jumped the gun by sending the message to its users before the update actually went live, or it may have simply not anticipated how long the update might take to be available everywhere.
A Snapchat spokesperson confirmed to Mashable that the company is expecting the update to go live in the App Store "soon."
In the meantime, expectant Snapchatters will just have to hold tight and send a few final snaps from the old app.
