The north front of the White House got a rainbow makeover after the Supreme Court's historic ruling to allow same-sex marriage in all 50 states.
On Friday evening, red, yellow, violet, blue and green lights covered the White House entryway, attracting a crowd of onlookers. The lighting looked similar to a cartoon drawing of a rainbow-clad White House that was posted on the White House's social media accounts earlier in the day.
"Tonight, the White House was lit to demonstrate our unwavering commitment to progress and equality, here in America and around the world," a White House official said. "The pride colors reflect the diversity of the LGBT community, and tonight, these colors celebrate a new chapter in the history of American civil rights."

Pete Souza, the chief official White House photographer, shared a photo of the north lawn on his Instagram account with the caption: "Tonight. #lovewins." The hashtag has been popular on social media since the court's decision. Politicos, reporters and White House visitors also posted their shots of the colorful scene.
