WidSets, the mobile widget platform, has officially launched, emerging from beta. I checked it out while it was still in private beta, and you can read the review here. Some important updates that are coming along with WidSets' official launch include an advertising model for more targeted mobile ads, and the ability to share mobile dashboards with others. Think of this as a public Pageflakes start page.
But with all that's going on with the mobile industry right now, I think it's important to look at the furthered initiatives of Nokia's WidSets platform.
Manufacturers vs. Service Providers
You see mobile manufacturers working on their projects, and service providers doing the same thing. Now with Google hopping on the bandwagon, we're all wondering who will align with who, and ultimately who will win? The interesting part for WidSets in particular is its offering of a mobile portal, which is completely customizable and tailored for your needs. Looking at the bigger companies like Yahoo and AOL, they're pushing their mobile portals for distributing users across their network, and are teaming up with mobile service providers across the world. But WidSets is moving in on this front as well. It will be pre-installing WidSets on Nokia phones next year.
Mobile vs. Web Setup
