Occasionally an idea comes along that it is hard to believe it has taken so long to come to fruition. Such is the case with wireless Christmas lights.

De-tangling Christmas lights could be a thing of the past from next year thanks to a Kickstarter campaign by entrepreneurs Hardeep Johar and Chris Higgins. The duo were sick of the time-consuming task of holiday decorating so they created Aura Wi-Fi lights to remove some of the stress of the festive season.

Aura, the first ever wireless powered Christmas lights, are simple to use, with a Power Ring being clasped around the base of the tree and connected to any standard outlet.

"The Power Ring safely creates a magnetic field and only transfers energy when a receiver comes into its field," the founders said.

The ring then picks up the wireless signals connected to Aura's LED lighted ornaments and the lights can be controlled and scheduled using a remote control or via an iPhone or Android app.

It will save hours of hassle as you can forget about searching for the broken bulb that ruined the whole chain or short circuiting. You can even place the lights wherever you like as they are not connected to the rest of the bulbs.

The lights, which can last up to 20 years, come in five colours, clear, red, green, blue, orange, and a range of glass finish options. So far, the U.S. Kickstarter campaign has raised more than $42,000 toward the $50,000 goal, with 44 days to go. If you want a Christmas free of tangled nightmares, these guys might be on to something great.
