Wikia, the commercial wiki from the Wikipedia founder, announced the addition of four more "open source magazines" (ie.niche wikis) on Thursday, bringing the total count to twelve.

The new additions - restaurants.wikia.com, foodie.wikia.com, fitness.wikia.com and mortgages.wikia.com - are niche magazine extensions of the Wikia Media brand and allow users to add content on a variety of topics within the given niche.

As the name implies, this magazine serves as a user edited restaurant review guide and has launched with 20,000 restaurants in the database (although many do not have any content added yet). Users can browse restaurants and add new ones to the magazine, along with rating and reviewing according to their personal experiences.

The foodie addition to the Wikia magazine encompasses everything food with a social twist. Here users can edit the food encyclopedia, add recipes, create a cookbook as well as write food articles and blog entries.

The health conscious fitness wikia is all about discussion related to fitness and includes sections relating to dieting/weight loss, exercising, weight training and nutrition.

Looking to discuss mortgages and ask for advice? The mortgage wikia features sections for first time buyers, mortgage refinancing, bad credit mortgages, applying for a mortgage as well as a mortgage glossary. Another good feature is the ability for users to rate lenders and review their successes and failures with them.
