The North Fire and the Pine Fire both started relatively close to each other on Friday in Southern California.

The North Fire started off of Interstate 15 in San Bernardino County in the Cajon Pass, a crowded route used to get to Las Vegas from the Los Angeles area. It moved fast, devouring around 3,500 acres in several hours, as well as burning multiple cars and at least four structures.

Later in the evening, the Pine Fire started in Wrightwood in mountainous terrain near the Mountain High ski area and multiple campgrounds. The campgrounds, including 90 Girl Scouts were hastily evacuated, as firefighting resources were diverted from the North Fire to battle the new blaze, which quickly grew at night to more than 100 acres.

The Pine Fire is burning in drought-impacted forest, and actively burned overnight. Its cause is currently under investigation, and Forest Service law enforcement is blocking media access to the origin point.
