Microsoft finally revealed more details about its new Continuum feature Wednesday -- and it only takes one click.

Continuum is Microsoft's new feature that allows users with touch-enabled devices to easily switch between tablet and PC modes in Windows 10 .

Microsoft first gave us a glimpse of Continuum at its first Windows 10 preview event in September but Joe Belfiore showed off a more in-depth demonstration of the feature at Wednesday's consumer-focused event.

The goal of Continuum is to give Windows users with hybrid devices -- tablet/PC combos like Microsoft's Surface tablets, which can be used as a touch-first device or with a mouse and keyboard -- easy access to both user interfaces so they can switch between tablet and PC mode.

"A device like this elegantly transforms from one mode to another," Belfiore explained while demoing the feature.

When using say, a Surface, remove the keyboard and a window appears asking if you want to enter tablet mode. As soon as you switch, all application windows automatically become full screen and the start menu also reverts to full screen.

Snap the keyboard back in (or turn your PC around) and Windows automatically reverts back to PC mode. Should the feature work as easily as it did during Wednesday's demonstration, then switching between modes is as easy as connecting or disconnecting a keyboard or other accessory.

While this may seem like an obvious solution for people with these types of devices, as Microsoft's tech editor Pete Pachal points out, confusion about when to use touch-friendly "modern" versions of apps and when to use their PC-friendly counterparts, was a big source of confusion for users in Windows 8 and 8.1. Making this transition automatic could go a long way toward resolving it.
