Advocacy Ad: The Winter Olympics Have 'Always Been a Little Gay'

As Sochi prepares for its closeup, a Canadian advocacy group is playfully reminding the city that the Winter Olympics have "always been a little gay."

And what better way to make that point than with an ad featuring lingering shots of two guys luging to the strains of the Human League's Don't You Want Me?

Russia's ban on "gay propaganda" and Sochi Mayor Anatoly Pakhomov's insistence that the city of 343,000 has "no gays" has sparked protests among groups and individuals who see the activity as a violation of human rights. While more virulent protests have caught McDonald's, for one, in their crosshairs, this message from the Canadian Institute of Diversity and Inclusion is one of the more gentle rebuttals.
