Diana has come a very long way in over 70 years.

The original concept sketch of Wonder Woman is up for auction on Comic Link. The hand-drawn artwork was sketched in 1941 by artist H.G. Peter and includes correspondence between himself and the creator, William Moulton Marston.

This rare piece of comic book history was originally acquired from Peter's estate. According to Comic Link's website, the piece "contains Peter's first sketches of the most popular and enduring female superhero of all ... rendered in what appear to be pencil, ink and crayon."

Peter writes to Marston on the sketch:

Dear Dr. Marston,

I slapped these two out in a hurry. The eagle is tough to handle - when in perspective or in profile, he doesn't show up clearly -- the shoes look like a stenographer's. I think the idea might be incorporated as a sort of Roman contraption.

Peter.

Below, Marston replies:

Dear Pete --

I think the gal with hand up is very cute. I like her skirt, legs, hair. Bracelets okay + boots. These probably will work out. See other suggestions enclosed. No on these + stripes -- red + white. With eagle's wings above or below breasts as per enclosed? Leave it to you. Don't we have to put a red stripe around her waist as belt? I thought Gaines wanted it -- don't remember. Circlet will have to go higher -- more like crown -- see suggestions enclosed. See you Wednesday morning.

-- WMM.

There is no advertised price on the artwork, but to any diehard comic fan, it's practically priceless. More information on the piece is available on Comic Link.
