If you're a World of Warcraft fan who wants to buy a piece of the game's history and doesn't mind helping a hospital in the process, you're in luck.

Blizzard is selling some 2,000 retired HP p-Class server blades, each one with a transparent case, etched with the WoW logo and marked with the name of the realm it used to host.

The World of Warcraft game world is divided into realms, which basically equals servers bearing different names, each with its own population. Players who have become emotionally attached to a particular realm will perhaps think of these server blades as memorabilia, and Blizzard hopes some of them will be happy to part with some money to own the circuit boards that once hosted their character(s).

Buyers will be doing a good deed in the process. Blizzard will donate 100% of the proceeds after auction expenses to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

"World of Warcraft realms are like the virtual neighbourhoods of the game’s community. They contain the spaces where millions of players have made friendships, forged friendly rivalries, and created lasting memories. Each winner in this auction will own a small monument to those collective experiences. The best part is that this auction benefits a great charity doing tremendous work in helping children from the U.S. and around the world," said Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime.
