Xanga's demographic definitely skews young - as well as mentioning that most MySpace users are 35 or over, the recent ComScore report pointed out that a fifth of Xangans are aged 12-17. And despite having options to block your Xanga from the search engines and turn off syndication feeds, Xanga still got hit by a $1 million child privacy fine for failing to verify the age of their users on signup (see Xanga fined). Other new features on the site include Xanga Video and Xanga Audio, both of them locked down to the extent that they're useless to outsiders.
However, not all the users are completely won over, if the feedback on the launch announcement is anything to go by. Some point out that the move will hurt Xanga's traffic, while others think it's "getting a little out of hand". This is the opposite tactic to Facebook's new open doors policy: they're gradually closing off Xanga from outsiders, which may have an impact on the number of new signups.
