Four major entertainment partners and two major sports partners are joining the Microsoft Xbox 360 console streaming content lineup.

Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures, Univision and Machinima will all add additional entertainment content to the Xbox lineup of apps. Yusuf Mehdi, chief marketing officer, said during Microsoft's E3 presentation on Monday that these will join 40 other entertainment applications on the 360.

On the sports side, NBA League Pass and an NHL package are coming to a sports lineup that already includes MLB.tv On Demand and streaming UFC fights. Microsoft also announced that their partnership with ESPN would be expanding to provide 24-hour content on the Xbox 360.

The addition of all these content channels go beyond appealing to gamers, instead hitting all ages and demographics. It also helps give a longer life to the aging console, which was released in Nov. 2005.

Microsoft's announcement reinforces their message that the Xbox is not just a gaming console, but a full-on media center.
