The Xbox One controller gets a whole lot better in June

The pain of connecting a chat headset to an Xbox One controller is about to go away for good.

Microsoft appears to be planning a controller redesign that does away with the proprietary headset port in favor of a more standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Currently, connecting a headset requires a special adapter (or specially designed headset) that includes built-in volume and mute controls.

While no redesign has been formally revealed, a NeoGAF user spotted an update to the controller's official support page that noted the 3.5mm jack is "only available on controllers released after June 2015." That text has since disappeared from the support page, but here's a captured image of what it said.

Even without official confirmation, there's compelling evidence that suggests a controller redesign is coming, and it might cover more than just a new headphone jack. A recent tweet from the French Xbox Twitter account said this:

On se prépare tranquillement... #XboxE3 pic.twitter.com/lF5k2VgqvS

— Xbox FR (@XboxFR) May 27, 2015

The translated text of the tweet reads "Getting ready quiet" and the "#XboxE3" hashtag indicates that answers are coming at June's annual E3 trade show. Microsoft's pre-show press conference for Xbox is happening on June 15, so it's a safe bet that we'll have answers by then, if not before.
