Xiaomi, the Beijing-based electronics company that produces mouthwatering smartphones and tablets only for Chinese markets, has launched a global model: the Xiaomi Mi 4i.
The Mi 4i, which was unveiled in New Delhi, India, on Thursday, is a slightly less powerful but more affordable version of the company's Mi 4 smartphone. It has a 5-inch 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of memory and a 13-megapixel camera on the back (coupled with a 5-megapixel one on the front.
The device also sports a beefy 3,120 mAh battery, which Xiaomi claims offers 38% more capacity than most phones in its class. 4G is supported, and the phone has dual-SIM capability.
One major difference from the Mi 4 is the case. The Mi 4i has a unibody polycarbonate case, available in five colors, rather than a metal design. It weighs 130 grams (4.6 ounces) and is quite slim at 7.8mm.
On the software side, the Mi 4i runs on Android Lollipop. It will be availble for 12,999 Indian rupees ($205) when it becomes available April 30 on India's ecommerce company Flipkart. There's no word on when it will become available in the U.S.
