While the tales of Twittering their job's demise over at Yahoo were certainly fascinating, folks in the United States aren't the only ones losing their jobs at the company. The IndiaTimes is reporting that at least 40 employees of Yahoo India are also being shown the door:

"The job cuts have come as a shock for the Yahoo! India employees who were given just 30 minutes to exit their workplace. Some of the emotionally distraught employees broke down on receiving the news while others who turned restive called up ET office.

Yahoo! India currently has a total headcount of 1,500 with its R&D operations solely located in Bangalore. The latest job cuts were primarily in the R&D division.Sources said that the job cuts affected up to the mid-manager level across all its segments. The affected people include developers, senior engineers and some of the relatively inexperienced people. Yahoo! India officials were not available for comment."

Yahoo is truly serious about trimming the fat, it would seem. There isn't any indication if these global cutbacks are part of the 1,000 reported cutbacks, or if the worldwide layoffs are in addition to the cutbacks we've seen in America. Though the Yahoo India CEO Sharad Sharma did not comment on the news, a public statement by Yahoo India stated that those cut were what they term 'relatively low performers' based on an internal index Yahoo uses to gauge productivity of their employees. Unlike America, the management and executive staff seems to have mostly avoided the axe.
