Seems like ever since Microsoft put a bid out on Yahoo for $44.6 billion, Yahoo has taken the opportunity to roll out new features, make big announcements, and generally speaking, prove its prowess. After cutting a deal with Rhapsody, swirling around rumors of possibly offering free mp3s and announcing Yahoo Live, the company is still looking to improve its media offerings by releasing some upgrades on its Media Player.

Aside from making it "prettier," the Media Player has also been resized so that when it is first loaded, it takes up less space on the page when it's not needed. There's also steady scrolling, meaning the player won't flicker while you scroll anymore. In fact, another upgrade has made the whole experience of the Yahoo Media Player more seamless--the search no longer interrupts the music playing, as related search links now open in an entirely new window. In its efforts to increase adoption rate, the Yahoo Media Player home page has been simplified and now focuses on portraying the purpose of the player itself, with bolder outlines of its tools, and invitations to try it out yourself.

A feature a lot of you readers may appreciate is the added functionality to the "Play This Page" option. Support for this option has been extended to nearly all web document types, including XSPF, ASX, M3U, and PLS, as well as HTML, and enclosures in RSS or Atom feeds. This should make it easier for playlist creation, media sharing amongst web users (i.e. a musician can have a single master page for all of their music, which can be used by others), and the collection of more metadata for your playlists.
