Search has been a sticking point for Google rivals like Microsoft, Yahoo and AOL. And given Google's dominance in the market, along with the current embracing of developers to create tools on open platforms, Yahoo finds itself pushing its Search Monkey platform for developers to create applications where content owners can add rich content to search results. This initiative is still evolving behind closed doors, but Yahoo has revealed a few new details about the Search Monkey project today.

Developers will also be able to provide Yahoo with rich site content via structured markup in their pages, or structured feeds. This presents additional options for submitting content to be used in this Yahoo Search platform. Also, there will be a developer ecosystem for search included in Yahoo Search Monkey, and this is designed for developers to create "enhanced results" on the platform. This will be for the added support of semantic search standards, including microformats, hCard, hCalendar, hReview, hAtom, and XFN, and RDF.
